Keeping It In The Family
Curry taking over from traditional English food? Not according to those of you who entered our recent MFI survey. English food is still the nation's number one, with only 15% choosing Italian and Chinese food, and even less opting for French and Thai cuisine. And where do you get the inspiration for your return to traditional English recipes from? Your families; yet another suggestion that we are returning to home-grown ideas and values.
Celebrity snub
The family is also the focus when it comes to choosing a new kitchen. Almost half of those who completed our survey said their partner would be the first person to be consulted for design ideas, over and above TV favourites like Laurence Llewellyn-Bowen and Linda Barker (who got less that 10% of the votes).
Commenting on the survey, MFI's director of group merchandising and brand, Jon Rosby said: "This is really a lighthearted look at the developing tastes and preferences of our potential customers. Family values are obviously still strong although we are aware that kitchen purchases are traditionally a shared experience, not least because of the value of the investment. It's also good to see a return to favour of good quality English classics, which seem to be firmly back on the menu in households today."
The survey was carried out in Jan/Feb 2001 by NOP using 1000 respondents nationwide.
