Spring is the perfect time to have a proper clean and declutter, so follow our guide to get your bedroom looking bright, tidy and cheerful!

Need a little help with kickstarting your cleaning this year? We’ve got an easy-to-follow bedroom spring cleaning checklist that makes it easy to shrug off the winter blues. Don’t underestimate the impact your environment can have on your mood - a bright and organised space can make all the difference!
Spring cleaning can feel like a major task, but breaking it down into simple steps is one of the best ways to make it less overwhelming. Take your time, put on your favourite playlist, and just focus on one task at a time. Before you know it, you’ll be well on your way to starting off the new year right with a clean and tidy bedroom.

Before you really get started with spring cleaning your bedroom, it’s a good idea to remove anything that either belongs somewhere else (like cups and plates, or dirty laundry) or is rubbish.
Grab a bin bag for the rubbish, and consider boxes for the rest, but the important part is getting it out of the bedroom. You can organise it all later, but you need a clean slate to work with when cleaning your bedroom.
Wipe Down All Surfaces

Next, take everything off your surfaces (like your bedside table and chest of drawers) and temporarily move them somewhere else, like on top of your bed. Then, use an all-purpose cleaning spray and a cloth (or kitchen roll) to clean all of the surfaces.
This would also be a good opportunity to give any hard decorations (like picture frames) a quick wipe down to get rid of dust and dirt. You can replace all your decorations once the surfaces are clean and dry.
Organise Your Drawers

Now, it’s time to get a look inside the drawers. This means looking through your chest of drawers (and wardrobe), as well as bedside drawers and any bedroom shelving. Go through everything you store in your bedroom - don’t forget to look under the bed! - and decide if anything needs to go.
This could be clothes that don’t fit anymore or that you simply don’t wear, and any sneaky junk that has been accumulating in your bedside drawers. Consider donating your unwanted clothes to charity shops (or family and friends!) if possible, rather than just throwing them away.
Wash The Windows

It’s one of the less obvious tasks, but the insides of your windows may need a little bit of spring cleaning too. Use a glass-cleaning spray for the window panes themselves, but make sure you go over the frames and sill with a surface cleaner too.
Try to keep your curtains or blinds open throughout the day, too - now that it’s spring, you might as well make the most of the extra light! Keep them open for a little bit each day too so that you’re replacing the stuffy air with a fresh breeze from outside.
Change Your Bedding

To keep everything fresh, strip your bedding and put everything in the wash, and then replace the bedding. It might be a good idea to switch to a lighter, lower tog duvet and put the fleece duvet cover away for next winter, too.
To get your bedding ready for spring, cut down on throws and look for cotton material so that you’re getting maximum breathability as well as comfort.
Hoover And/Or Mop Your Floor

Depending on the type of flooring you have in your bedroom, you might want to give it the full, deep-clean experience with a mop - but obviously not if you have carpeted flooring!
Either way, going over your floor with a hoover is a good idea to freshen it up. You should hoover your rugs too, and either machine or hand wash them, according to their care instructions. Not all rugs are machine washable, so make sure to check!
Clean Your Curtains

It’s easy to forget about your curtains, but they need cleaning too! Take them down and clean them according to their care instructions, including ironing if appropriate to get that perfect, wrinkle-free look. You may want to switch out your curtains if you’ve been using heavy, thermal drapes to fight off the winter chill, since lighter curtains can help you make the most of the light outside.
Check Your Lights

Lamp shades can often attract a lot of dust, and sometimes you don’t even notice it building up - especially when it’s on the inside. Make sure to dust any lights and their shades, whether that’s your main ceiling light or a small one on your bedside table. If your lamp’s base is made of a hard material, like ceramic or metal, then it’s worth giving that a wipe as well.
It’s Cleaning Time!
Now that you’ve got the checklist, all that’s left is to pick some new spring bedding, put on some tunes and get on with the cleaning! If your newly tidied bedroom needs a few style tips, then we’ve got you covered, whether you’re considering matching your bed set and curtains or looking for a bedroom chair.
