Chests of Drawers

A chest of drawers is useful well beyond the bedroom. Use one in a hallway for hats, gloves and post, in a living room for games and cables, or in a spare room for bedding, towels and everyday clutter that needs a proper home.

A three drawer chest works well for bulkier items like jumpers, jeans or blankets, while five and six drawer chests give you more ways to separate smaller things. If you’re storing a mix, look for a layout with different drawer sizes so everything has its place.

Width and height matter too. A tall chest of drawers gives you plenty of storage without taking up too much floor space, which works well in tighter rooms. A wide chest gives you more surface room for a lamp, plant, decorative mirror or the bits you want to keep close by.

Think about where the drawers will open. Leave enough space in front so you can pull them out fully without hitting the bed, sofa, hallway wall or nearby furniture.
