Hallway Furniture

Your hallway has a lot to do, even if it’s short on space. It’s where shoes come off, keys get dropped, bags wait by the door and first impressions happen before anyone reaches the living room.

When choosing hallway furniture, start with the daily traffic. A slim console table gives keys, post and lamps somewhere to land without blocking the walkway. A storage bench gives you a place to sit while shoes go on, with room underneath for the bits you don’t want scattered by the door.

If you have a wider hallway, a cupboard or sideboard can help hide shoes, bags, dog leads and seasonal extras. For narrower spaces, look for furniture pieces with shallow depths, slim legs or open shelving so the area still feels easy to move through.

Before you fall for a new piece of furniture for your hallway, measure the walkway as well as the wall. Make sure doors can open, drawers can pull out and there’s still space to walk through with bags, coats and the usual hallway chaos.
