Keep Your Cool
The first job is making sure the parasol and base actually work together. A standard centre pole parasol is made to sit through a compatible garden table or in a suitable base, while a cantilever parasol uses a cross shaped frame at the bottom. The bases shown here are designed for cantilever styles, so check the fitting before ordering.
Both base options can be filled to add weight once they are in place. The four part design sits around a cross base, while the single piece version gives you a neater look. Check the product details to see whether water, sand or a mixture is recommended, and follow the filling guidance for the base you choose.
Before opening the parasol, make sure there is enough clear space around it. Look out for fences, walls, tree branches and nearby furniture, especially if the canopy needs room to turn or tilt. Remember to keep the parasol closed when it is not in use and follow the care instructions during windy or unsuitable weather. It is also worth checking whether any base parts are included with the parasol, so you do not order more than you need.
