Garden Chairs

When it comes to choosing a chair (or set of chairs) for your garden, start with what you want the seat to do. Garden dining chairs are designed to sit neatly around an outdoor table, while lounge chairs, garden armchairs and outdoor sofas give you more room to settle in with a book or drink. A bench makes better use of a long wall or garden boundary, and a chair with a rattan footstool creates a more relaxed setup without needing space for a full sofa.

Think about the surface and setting too. Slimmer dining chairs are useful on compact patios, whereas deeper rattan or woven designs need more room around them. Wooden garden chairs bring warmth alongside decking and natural planting, while grey or black finishes create a sharper contrast against pale paving. Natural rattan and rope-style weaves add texture and help soften areas surrounded by brick, render or fencing.

To make the area feel well put together, group chairs around an outdoor table or position a single statement chair where it catches the morning or evening sun. Add garden cushions or an outdoor rug where helpful, and plan storage for any loose seat pads between uses.
