Keep It Accessible
A fan isolator switch is there to make servicing and cleaning easier, so position it somewhere visible and easy to reach. It shouldn’t be hidden behind furniture, cupboards or the fan itself.
Check how your extractor fan is wired before choosing a replacement. Fans with timers, humidity sensors or separate controls may have different isolation requirements, so the switch needs to suit both the fan and the existing circuit.
In bathrooms, the location must also follow the relevant rules for electrical fittings near water. Your electrician can confirm the right position and whether the current back box and wiring are suitable.
Once the practical details are covered, choose a finish that sits neatly with nearby light switches and sockets.
