Check Your Connection

Before ordering, check whether you’re replacing the main telephone socket or adding an extra connection elsewhere. The master socket is where the external phone line enters your home, while secondary sockets extend that connection into other rooms.

The main socket may belong to your telephone network provider, so contact your provider before moving, replacing or repairing it. Secondary sockets and internal extension wiring can usually be updated separately, but check the existing cable and back box first.

It’s also worth checking how your phone service works. Some modern services connect the handset through a broadband router rather than a traditional wall socket, which may mean existing telephone sockets are no longer needed.

Once you know the connection is suitable, choose a position your phone can reach without trailing cables across the room. Matching the finish to nearby light switches and sockets will help everything sit neatly together.
