Keep It in Check
Checks can make a bed feel relaxed and familiar, but the colour and finish change the look quite a bit. Gingham in biscuit, natural or soft green feels light and easy going, while forest green, berry, navy or red give the pattern more weight. If you want something playful, pink checks or cherry prints bring in more colour without needing lots of extra accessories.
The fabric can shift the mood too. Smooth 100% cotton gingham keeps things simple and works well year-round, while brushed checked bedding has a softer look. Sherpa-backed designs feel more wintry and are better suited to a snug, layered bedroom scheme. Coverless options are another route if you want the pattern without a separate checked duvet cover.
Checks are easiest to style when the rest of the bed stays fairly plain. Pick one colour from the pattern for fitted sheets or pillowcases, then add a throw in a related shade if you want more depth. Mixing two different checks can work, but keeping one larger and one smaller stops the bed looking too busy.
