Keep Grey Interesting
Grey comes into its own when you mix shades and textures rather than trying to match everything exactly. Dove grey and silver keep the bed looking lighter, while slate and charcoal add more depth. Combining two or three tones can make an all grey scheme feel layered, especially when the walls, carpet or headboard already sit somewhere on the grey spectrum.
Texture is an easy way to stop the colour feeling too plain. Smooth sateen has a more polished finish, while brushed cotton, seersucker and woven stripes make grey feel softer and more relaxed. For a cosier look, teddy fleece, faux fur, quilted bedspreads and throws bring more weight and texture to the bed without needing to introduce another colour.
Patterns can shift the look again. Gingham and stripes give grey bedding a more casual feel, while subtle florals soften it and work well in bedrooms with plenty of plain bedroom furniture. If you already have patterned wallpaper or curtains, plain charcoal, dove or slate grey bedding gives the room somewhere to rest.
Grey also makes a useful base when you do want colour. Sage and dusty blue keep things muted, while blush, mustard or rust create a warmer contrast. When mixing sheets and grey duvet covers, slightly different greys often look more natural than a perfect match.
